IEEE 802.1CB defines frame replication and elimination for reliability: send every frame down disjoint paths, discard the duplicates at the far end, and a single path failure becomes invisible. In a smart grid that matters physically, because a late frame can damage equipment.
The implementation is in P4, written clause by clause against the standard and run on a nine-switch bmv2 topology under Mininet, with the ONOS P4Runtime driver extended to program it.
The hardware path was worked on Netronome SmartNICs before the full testbed was run on software switches: the same proof of conformance, at none of the cost.
